Chicory Root Inulin in SodaTide: 211 mg, What Research Shows and Who Should Ask First
Chicory root inulin is the first ingredient on the SodaTide label, at 211 mg per capsule. Inulin is a plant fiber that gut bacteria ferment. Trials of prebiotic fibers show small, fragile weight changes at gram doses, and 211 mg is 0.211 g. The usual side effects are gas and bloating. No study tested SodaTide.

The ingredient01
What is chicory root inulin in SodaTide?
Chicory root inulin is a plant carbohydrate that the small intestine does not absorb and that gut bacteria ferment. SodaTide names it first on the Supplement Facts panel as "Chicory Root Inulin (Cichorium intybus)(root)".
Inulin is found in foods such as onions, asparagus and chicory root, and most supplement inulin comes from chicory root (Cleveland Clinic, Inulin) (Harvard Nutrition Source, Fiber). Because gut bacteria use it as food, health writers call it a prebiotic (Mayo Clinic, Probiotics and prebiotics).
| Name on the label | Chicory Root Inulin (Cichorium intybus)(root) |
|---|---|
| What it is | Cichorium intybus root: inulin, a prebiotic fibre that gut bacteria ferment |
| Place on the panel | 1 of 3 |
| Amount per capsule | 211 mg per capsule (printed) |
| What research looked at | Small trials of inulin-type fibre on appetite, weight and gut bacteria; most used several grams a day |
| Evidence level | Limited: small trials at gram doses; weight effects small or mixed |
| What it is called | Prebiotic fibre |
| Main caution | Gas, bloating and loose stools are the usual effects of fermentable fibre; the printed 211 mg is about 0.2 g. |

The amount02
How much chicory root inulin is in one SodaTide capsule?
One capsule holds 211 mg, which is 0.211 g. That is the largest of the three printed lines, and it is the one the label names first.
Fiber is usually counted in grams. The Daily Value for dietary fiber is 28 g (FDA, Daily Value on the Nutrition and Supplement Facts labels), so 0.211 g would be under 1% of it, if inulin were counted that way. The label itself prints "Daily Value not established" for this line.
| Item | What it says |
|---|---|
| Printed amount | 211 mg per capsule (0.211 g) |
| Serving | 1 capsule a day, 30 servings a bottle |
| Share of the 347 mg named total | About 61% (211 of 347) |
| Source of the inulin, grade or chain length | Not printed |
| Fiber grams or "% Daily Value" | Not printed |
Study doses of inulin-type fiber are usually several grams a day. The label amount is milligrams. That gap does not make the capsule safe or unsafe. It means trial results cannot be copied onto it.
The research03
Does chicory root inulin help with weight loss or appetite?
The evidence is limited. Pooled trials of prebiotic fibers show a small weight change, and the people who pooled them call the result fragile.
One review of 21 trials in adults with a BMI of 25 or more pooled five prebiotic arms. They found about 0.9 kg less weight than placebo, a BMI change that was not statistically significant, and a median follow-up of 12 weeks (Kunnackal John 2018, Gut microbiome diet and weight meta-analysis). That review covered prebiotic fibers as a group and names no product.
Soluble fiber forms a gel and slows stomach emptying, so you may feel full longer (Cleveland Clinic, Inulin). Harvard's nutrition team says quality evidence for prebiotic supplements is still little (Harvard Health, Should you take probiotics?), and the NIH weight-loss supplement review has no inulin section (NIH ODS, Dietary Supplements for Weight Loss (health professional)).

Limited: small trials at gram doses; weight evidence limited. Trials of resistant starch (often raw potato starch in gram doses) on blood sugar, fullness and gut bacteria. (Cleveland Clinic, Resistant starch) (Harvard Health, Resistant starch) (Baptista 2024, Resistant starch narrative review)
- Probiotic BlendVery limited
Very limited for these three names and for weight. Probiotic effects depend on the exact strain; studies of other strains looked at weight and gut symptoms. Bubbles show how much human research the linked sources describe for the uses the front of the bottle implies: appetite, metabolism and digestion. From 0 (none found) to 5 (strong). None of it tested SodaTide, and research on an ingredient is not proof that a product works at the printed amount.
The sales page says the prebiotic fiber "reduces glucose spikes after meals" (SodaTide sales page (mysodatide.com)). We found no test of this capsule on blood sugar, and the printed amount is a tiny fraction of a gram.
Side effects04
Can chicory root inulin cause gas and bloating?
Yes, it can. Inulin is fermented in the large intestine, and fermentation makes gas. Cleveland Clinic lists constipation, cramping, diarrhea, gas and bloating as the usual effects of too much (Cleveland Clinic, Inulin).
NIDDK explains the basic idea: carbohydrates that are not fully digested reach the large intestine, where bacteria break them down and make gas, and too much fiber can increase gas for some people (NIDDK, Gas in the Digestive Tract: eating, diet, nutrition). Mayo Clinic advises adding fiber slowly over a few weeks with plenty of water (Mayo Clinic, Dietary fiber).
At 0.211 g a capsule, the amount is small beside a food-fiber day. We do not know how any one person will react, and no source we read measured gas from this capsule.
- Take the capsule with the 8 oz. glass of water the label asks for.
- Stop and call a clinician for severe belly pain, blood in the stool, black stools or repeated vomiting.
Ask first05
Who should ask a clinician before taking chicory root inulin?
Ask first if you are pregnant or nursing, under 18, take any medicine, have a gut condition or have a pollen allergy. The SodaTide label gives the first three groups the same advice: see a physician.
Irritable bowel syndrome
Harvard notes that people with irritable bowel syndrome may be sensitive to inulin-type fibers (Harvard Nutrition Source, Fiber).
Ragweed or pollen allergy
A dietitian quoted by Cleveland Clinic says you may be more prone to issues with chicory if ragweed or pollen bothers you (Cleveland Clinic, Coffee Alternatives (chicory)). The allergy group's ragweed food list does not name chicory (ACAAI, Pollen Food Allergy Syndrome). Ask an allergist.
Diabetes medicine
Insulin, sulfonylureas and meglitinides can cause low blood sugar, and skipped meals are one cause (NIDDK, Low Blood Glucose (Hypoglycemia)). We found no source on inulin with these medicines.
Keep taking every prescribed medicine and show the bottle to your doctor or pharmacist. Tell every provider about supplements before surgery (ASA, Herbal and Dietary Supplements and Anesthesia).

Is the chicory root inulin in SodaTide tested?
We found no public test of SodaTide, so we cannot say. The lot number and certificate number on file are seller references, not lab proof.
The FDA warns that many weight-loss products are found with hidden drugs, and a product's absence from its list proves nothing (FDA, Weight Loss Product Notifications). We found no FDA notice or warning letter for SodaTide, which is also not a test result.
Reading the bottle07
What should you check about the inulin line on your bottle?
Check the name, the milligrams and the warnings. The line reads Chicory Root Inulin (Cichorium intybus)(root), 211 mg.
- A dagger shows that no Daily Value is established.
- The caution says pregnant or nursing mothers, children under 18 and anyone with a known medical condition should consult a physician.
The label facts page types out the whole panel. For the other two lines, see potato resistant starch and the probiotic blend.
Next08
Is chicory root inulin a reason to choose SodaTide?
On the evidence we found, not by itself. Prebiotic fiber has limited weight evidence at gram doses, and the capsule prints milligrams.

SodaTide questions people ask
Is chicory root the same as inulin?
No. Chicory root is the plant part, and inulin is the fiber taken from it. Cleveland Clinic says most supplement inulin tends to come from chicory root. SodaTide names both on one line.
How many grams of inulin are in SodaTide?
One capsule holds 211 mg, which is 0.211 g, as the label prints it. A bottle of 30 capsules holds about 6.3 g in total. Trials of inulin-type fiber usually use several grams in one day.
Does inulin cause constipation or diarrhea?
It can cause either. Cleveland Clinic lists constipation, cramping, diarrhea, gas and bloating as effects of too much inulin. Raise fiber slowly, drink water, and ask a clinician if symptoms last.
Is chicory root inulin a probiotic?
No. Inulin is a prebiotic, meaning food for gut bacteria. A probiotic is a live microbe. SodaTide has both: the inulin line and a separate 36 mg probiotic blend.
Can I take inulin if I have a ragweed allergy?
Ask an allergist first. Cleveland Clinic's dietitian says people bothered by ragweed or pollen may be more prone to issues with chicory. The allergy group's ragweed food list does not name chicory.
