Raw Potato Resistant Starch: Types, Amounts and Soluble Fibre Questions
Raw potato resistant starch is the starch in uncooked potato that escapes digestion in the small intestine. Scientists call it type RS2, one of five types. Not all potato starch is resistant starch. SodaTide's label prints 100 mg of potato resistant starch per capsule and does not print the type.

Definition01
What is raw potato resistant starch?
It is the part of raw potato starch that the small intestine does not digest. Gut bacteria in the colon ferment it instead.
A 2024 review sorts resistant starch into five types, RS1 to RS5. Raw potatoes and green bananas hold RS2, a raw granular starch. (Baptista 2024, Resistant starch narrative review) Cleveland Clinic says most people do not eat these foods raw. (Cleveland Clinic, Resistant starch)
We could not confirm a gram figure for raw potato in the sources we read. The numbers we found are for cooked and cooled potato.
Not all starch02
Is all potato starch resistant starch, and is it soluble fibre?
No to the first, and partly yes to the second. Only the undigested share counts, and Harvard describes resistant starch as a soluble, fermentable fibre that acts as a prebiotic. (Harvard Nutrition Source, Fiber)
Cooking changes the picture. Harvard Health reports that cooling cooked russet potatoes raises resistant starch from 3.1 to 4.3 g per 100 g, an effect it calls "probably modest at best". (Harvard Health, Resistant starch)
| Form | What the sources say |
|---|---|
| Raw potato or raw starch | Type RS2; gram figure not confirmed |
| Cooked, then cooled russet | 3.1 to 4.3 g per 100 g |
| SodaTide capsule | 100 mg a capsule; type not printed |
Amounts03
How much resistant starch do people eat and study?
People eat little. Estimates are about 4 to 5 g a day in the US, and 3 to 10 g across the world, while trials gave 1 to 66 g.
The review reports the global and trial ranges. Cleveland Clinic gives about 5 g for the US, Harvard Health about 4 g. The meters below rate the three label ingredients, not the product.
- Chicory Root InulinLimited
Limited: small trials at gram doses; weight effects small or mixed. Small trials of inulin-type fibre on appetite, weight and gut bacteria; most used several grams a day. (Cleveland Clinic, Inulin) (WebMD, Inulin: Uses and Risks) (Harvard Nutrition Source, Fiber) (Kunnackal John 2018, Gut microbiome diet and weight meta-analysis)
- Potato Resistant StarchLimited
Limited: small trials at gram doses; weight evidence limited. Trials of resistant starch (often raw potato starch in gram doses) on blood sugar, fullness and gut bacteria. (Cleveland Clinic, Resistant starch) (Harvard Health, Resistant starch) (Baptista 2024, Resistant starch narrative review)
- Probiotic BlendVery limited
Very limited for these three names and for weight. Probiotic effects depend on the exact strain; studies of other strains looked at weight and gut symptoms. (NCCIH, Probiotics: Usefulness and Safety) (NIH ODS, Probiotics (health professional)) (ISAPP, Decoding a Probiotic Product Label) (Kunnackal John 2018, Gut microbiome diet and weight meta-analysis) (Cleveland Clinic, Probiotics and weight loss)
Bubbles show how much human research the linked sources describe for the uses the front of the bottle implies: appetite, metabolism and digestion. From 0 (none found) to 5 (strong). None of it tested SodaTide, and research on an ingredient is not proof that a product works at the printed amount.

Where does a 100 mg capsule fit?
It sits far below the trial range. The label prints 100 mg, which is 0.1 g, or about 2 percent of a 5 g daily intake.
That sum does not make SodaTide safe, unsafe, weak or strong. It only shows that trial results are not label results. Ask a clinician first if you are pregnant, nursing, under 18 or on medicine; the fiber and resistant starch guide explains more.
Honest line: the line is printed, but its benefit is unproven.

FAQ05
SodaTide questions people ask
Is potato starch soluble fiber?
Harvard describes resistant starch as a soluble, fermentable fibre that acts as a prebiotic. Whether a given potato starch product counts depends on how much of it resists digestion, which labels rarely state.
How much raw potato resistant starch is there?
We could not confirm a figure from the sources we read. They give cooked and cooled russet at 3.1 to 4.3 g per 100 g, and raw potato starch as type RS2.
What are the types of resistant starch?
A 2024 review names five, RS1 to RS5. RS2 is raw granular starch, found in raw potatoes and green bananas. We did not read the other definitions, so check the review.
