Potato Starch for Weight Loss: What the Trials Show and Do Not Show
Potato starch for weight loss has little reliable support. Trials of resistant starch, the part of starch that escapes digestion, report small or mixed weight changes. SodaTide's label prints 100 mg of potato resistant starch per capsule, while trials used 1 to 66 g a day. No study tested SodaTide itself.

The short answer01
Is potato starch for weight loss supported by research?
Not reliably. Potato starch is a starch that partly resists digestion, and the weight evidence for that kind of starch is weak and mixed.
A 2024 review of resistant starch found one pooled analysis with a small drop in body weight, mainly in studies of people with type 2 diabetes. Another found no significant change in BMI. (Baptista 2024, Resistant starch narrative review)
The NIH office on supplements says most weight-loss supplement studies are small, short or poorly designed. (NIH ODS, Dietary Supplements for Weight Loss (health professional))
Trial evidence02
What did resistant starch trials actually study?
They studied gram amounts of resistant starch, from 1 to 66 g a day.
It also notes that most of the evidence comes from maize, not potato. A trial result is therefore not a result for potato starch, and not one for a capsule.
- Chicory Root InulinLimited
Limited: small trials at gram doses; weight effects small or mixed. Small trials of inulin-type fibre on appetite, weight and gut bacteria; most used several grams a day. (Cleveland Clinic, Inulin) (WebMD, Inulin: Uses and Risks) (Harvard Nutrition Source, Fiber) (Kunnackal John 2018, Gut microbiome diet and weight meta-analysis)
- Potato Resistant StarchLimited
Limited: small trials at gram doses; weight evidence limited. Trials of resistant starch (often raw potato starch in gram doses) on blood sugar, fullness and gut bacteria. (Cleveland Clinic, Resistant starch) (Harvard Health, Resistant starch) (Baptista 2024, Resistant starch narrative review)
- Probiotic BlendVery limited
Very limited for these three names and for weight. Probiotic effects depend on the exact strain; studies of other strains looked at weight and gut symptoms. (NCCIH, Probiotics: Usefulness and Safety) (NIH ODS, Probiotics (health professional)) (ISAPP, Decoding a Probiotic Product Label) (Kunnackal John 2018, Gut microbiome diet and weight meta-analysis) (Cleveland Clinic, Probiotics and weight loss)
Bubbles show how much human research the linked sources describe for the uses the front of the bottle implies: appetite, metabolism and digestion. From 0 (none found) to 5 (strong). None of it tested SodaTide, and research on an ingredient is not proof that a product works at the printed amount.
Powder vs capsule03
Is a potato starch capsule the same as the trial powders?
No. The label prints 100 mg of potato resistant starch per capsule, which is 0.1 g. The trials above used 1 g at the low end.
That is one tenth of the smallest trial dose and about 660 times below the largest. The arithmetic does not make SodaTide safe or unsafe. It only shows that trial results cannot be carried over to the bottle.

What is the best potato starch for weight loss?
We could not confirm that any potato starch is best for weight loss. No source we read ranks products or brands for that purpose.
The FDA warns that many weight-loss products are likely to contain hidden drug ingredients. We found no public test, FDA notice or warning letter for SodaTide, and absence from a list proves nothing. (FDA, Weight Loss Product Notifications)
Fermentable fibre can cause gas and bloating. Ask a doctor or pharmacist first if you are pregnant or nursing, take medicine or have a condition. Read the potato starch guide and the potato resistant starch page before you decide.
Honest summary: the label prints its numbers, but no study backs a weight claim for this product.

FAQ05
SodaTide questions people ask
Is potato starch for weight loss proven?
No. We could not confirm any weight figure for potato starch itself. The review found a small drop in one pooled analysis and no BMI change in another, so no number should be promised.
Does potato starch burn belly fat?
No source we read says so. Weight results for resistant starch are small or mixed.
Was potato starch and weight loss research done on capsules?
Not that we found. The trials used powders or foods in gram amounts, and none tested SodaTide.
